Deborah and I hit up a quick trip to Market. We went with the mindset of not buying too much just finding some really good fillers for the showroom. Boy oh boy, we shopped until we literally dropped. I have been attending markets for the past 12 years and I think this market was one of the best I have been to. Everything was awesome. The feeling at market was positive and exciting. We found so many fantastic things and we are so excited to share a few of the pictures with you. Items have already started shipping so swing in and see all the new designs.

We took on a new line of heavy wrought iron designs. The company specializes in over scaled and magnificent home decor. This is just a taste of one of the items we purchased for kitchen islands.

Chandeliers are my obsession right now. We purchase many unique and unusual chandeliers for our showroom. Our goal is to have them hanging in every vignette. If you are looking for a not your everyday chandelier, Brown Interiors is the place to be.

Turquoise is such a rich color and it looks even richer when on printed crocodile leather. Paired with a black leather seat and wood finish. The back of the chair has red, turquoise and cream flame stitching. Popped by silver nail head studs. Ahhhhh.
Step out on the wild side and touch this ultra soft zebra occasional chair. Perfect in an entry, study or family room. This fantastic chair prices out under $900!!

We both fell in love with this shabby chic breakfast table. Distressed wood top with teal church pew legs. We mixed and matched chairs to work with this table creating an original setting. Can't wait to have this little group on the showroom floor.

My team is still smiling at the end of the day.... guess I hadn't worn them out at this point.

LOVE BIG DESIGNS

These two sisters have it going on! I love giving shout outs to women out there making it. They create handmade original canvas art, that is in my opinion very cute. While at market we stepped over into the 'cash n carry' section and found them cranking out canvases; and people were snatching them up as fast as they could make them. Even through all the hussle of market the sisters stopped and made us a personal sign for our shopping center. Its an inside joke for us, but still fun to share.

Sally married Jack!

We have a personal celebration to share with you today. Jean's daughter Sally got married to Jack this past weekend. It was an intimate celebration in Decatur, TX at a small Baptist Church where the attendence sign said 26! Sally and Jack are both finishing their education at Texas A&M and then will be moving to Greenwood where they will make their home. We wish them much love and happiness.

Re-model and Hours

We at Brown Interiors feel that it is very important for our employees to spend quality time with their family members during the holiday season. For that reason we will be closing the showroom on Friday, December 23 at 5pm and will not be re-opening until January 3rd at 10am.

While we are busy with our family and friends our showroom will be under going a major remodel. We will be revealing new inventory, new vignettes and a huge new design workspace. We also have increased our warehouse space for 2012 and we are quickly filling it up with stocked inventory that we are so excited to display. Thanks for an unbelievable 3 years in business Pearland. We are looking forward to a fantastic new year.

Whimsical Christmas Tree. This was my second year to work with these clients and help create their Christmas fantasy. I love the overscaled ornaments, extra wide ribbons and explosive topper.

This year we were asked to come decorated a model home for a Christmas tour, here is a sneak peek. The theme for the home is Southern Casual. They asked we use silver, blue, natural greens and touches of lime. I think we pulled this one off with much success.

Detail of the entry table at the model home. Galvanized metal crosses, cotton stems, large sugar cones, Mercury glass ornaments all adorn at chocolate silk velvet! Stunning.

Custom Front door again, second year in a row to assist these fabulous clients, nothing is more special than being asked to come back over and over. Referrals mean the most to me.

I personally created this wreath and door garland.

First thing you see when you open that stunning front door, a to die for Christmas staircase. Glittered gold Poinsettias, magnolia leaves dipped in gold, multiple burgundy ribbons, pine cones, and sparkling lights.

LAKE WAY, TX REMODEL

I was invited in April 2011, by some fabulous repeat clients of mine to come design their new home in Lake way, Texas. They had purchased an older home that was in much need of a remodel to reflect their personal style and touch. I posted some before and afters of the project. I worked along side Hal Shumate, with Shumate Custom Homes, their contractor and my clients to create a home that is nothing short than a master piece. Enjoy!

Kitchen Before: This kitchen was short on storage, poorly laid out and lacking today's amenities.

Kitchen After: Complete design remodel of cabinets and design of cabinet exterior and interiors. New paint and texture on walls. New lighting fixtures, new travertine flooring, granite counter tops, sinks, faucets and hardware.

Family room Before: Out date faux finished walls, niche for TV were not updated to follow today's TV sizes, carpeted family room, poor lighting fixtures.

Master Bathroom NOW: It got demoed before I could snap some photos of the before Master bedroom, however it was an amazing transformation.

Dining room Before:We transformed the dining room into a billiards room, right off the family room. Perfect place to play a game and still be in the mix; not separated off to an upstairs game room.

Shopping Bazaar

This will be our 3rd year to participate in the Shopping Bazaar. Every year the show gets bigger and better. This year not only will Brown Interiors have a huge assortment of our custom made Christmas wreaths and table arrangements. We also plan on having everything you will need to complete your gift list this Christmas. Many gifts priced under $50 all must haves for your family members, girl friends, bunco group, teachers, secret Santa, etc. I took lots of care and consideration when selecting each gift item while at Market... everything at the show will be something I personally would want. Give a gift with thought and the recipient will surely adore it.

This event is open to everyone in the community. There is a $5 admission and all monies are donated to local charities.

Come out and support your community. November 10th from 6:30-10pm.

I get asked all the time what is your personal style. People are always wondering what my home looks like. I have decided to share three of my favorite things in my family room with you. Which was harder than I first expected, because I realized I love every piece in my home! Every thing I purchase has a meaning, a purpose and a feeling attached to it. I want anyone who comes into my home to see how much it reflects me and my family. I get told when people enter they feel an immediate since of home, safety and love. I consider that one of my biggest compliments.

This Kathy Ireland chandelier I have it hanging in my family room and it is one of my favorite things. I searched for a chandelier that wasn't too fancy but still had the refinment I was wanting for the space. Casual elegance! The dark bronze iron with chunky rough crystals, aha. The light is filtered through the shades and illuminates my metallic bronze ceiling. In the evenings it makes the entire room glow and it is fabulous!

My robins egg blue built in cabinets with the brown glaze and Nottinghill hardware. When I was remodeling our home. There were two built ins in the family room that I waited one year after moving in to paint. I just couldn't pick a color. When I finally settled on the robins egg blue with glaze the entire room came together. The color is unexpected, calming and makes all the accessories on my shelves pop out. The Nottinghill hardware, sold at Brown Interiors, is so fine. The designs are original, the weight is heavy when you touch it and they look impressive on any piece. The hardware takes the cabinets to the next level of custom.

A good friend of mine purchased these and then decided she couldn't use them in her home so I bought two of them from her as a favor. At first I had them as the captain chairs at my breakfast table, but I one day I moved them into the family room for additional seating and fell in love. The woven texture against the dark brown bricks, next to my fantastic built ins, with my bird pillows from Pottery Barn... also some of my favorite pillows in the house. Everything just works.

Keeping it in the family

When I use something that I have owned for many years in a project for a client, I don't think of it as getting rid of something. For me, it is like keeping things in the family." I rearrange my personal home monthly, to my family and friends is almost a joke. But I never feel like I want to or that I am 'getting rid' of something. For example, I have owned some stunning smokey glass candle holders for ages and I have found from moving them around that they would look better in my girlfriends dining room. So I packed them up and took them over to her house. I knew it a perfect fit!

Another example is I have changed my color palette slightly lately intrigued by blues, creams and silver ( which I have never loved before) but still have really enjoyed bring them into my home. What to do with my red, orange and gold artwork? I still love it, so I share it with my sister and decorate her house with my treasures that I can not display right now.

Its a great way to change out some choice pieces in your interiors. Be sure the people you are sharing with understand when you are ready to change back its still your treasures. I encourage you to "keep it in your family" and see what items you have to trade.

Time and Time again!

I copied this story from a follower of our blog b/c I wanted to express the importance of hiring an Interior Designer. So many people feel they can do-it themselves, make a mess of the situation and then have to call us to come and fix it. Save yourself the headache, stress and time and just call us first.

Paint is so complicated. Colors on a swatch do not look the same on a wall or ceiling surface as they do on that little chip. The colors depend on the lighting in your space, what other colors are reflecting in that space and what type of paint you select. You can select the most stunning shade of gray to paint your wall, but pick the wrong finish and voila, headache and heartbreak, not to mention a room you have to repaint!

I just hear this same story time and time again and had to share ( hope my fellow follower gets a laugh out of the situation)

A blogger from The Woodlands writes:
"With as many times as we have painted over the years you would think by now we would be pros at picking out the right color. Oh, quite the contrary. We spent all last weekend gathering samples and trying them on the walls before committing to a color. This is all fine in theory, but take it from me, painting one more portion of a wall is not sufficient in choosing paint color.
We were really thinking a neutral with a more gold undertone would be nice with our new furniture and drapes. So we purchased five gallons of super expensive paint plus primer and began the daunting task of painting two hallways, the entire living room, kitchen and entry way. Robert is super meticulous too, so this was no "slap it on the wall" paint job either. OH MY GOODNESS the color was atrocious! What was I thinking?! And why did I wait until we were almost completely finished (4 days of painting) to decide how horrible it looked?!"

Now, I personally know this blogger and have helped her with so many projects. In her defense she really does have an eye for color HOWEVER, next time to my fellow blogger with the paint fail and to all of you out there reading this:

I found these delicious little cupcakes, yes, I have to say I did have one and it was worth every bite! I also found these stunning tulips that I couldn't pass up. They are the most beautiful shade of orange with a deep purple outline... and what girl doesn't like flowers? Then I headed up to our local Sonic and asked what drinks they could make me that were green. We came up with a sour apple Sprite that was just as yummy as it sounds. As you know we attended the last furniture market and had a blast buying all kinds of new goodies for the showroom. Many of you know Jean who works here at the showroom with us. She had never been to market so we invited her to come along and see the process. Also, we took a great friend and client, Alyssa. We were able to furnish her entire home in 3 days! I also made many appointments while there and had four other clients meet me for mini design consultation appointments in specific showrooms they wanted to see.

1.5 Million ... REALLY?

I found this house on a website called curbed national. They are holding a contest for the most hideous house. This little contender is right here in Houston. Currently on the market and listed at 1.5 million. Doused in black and white. Accented with mermaids and taxidermy this jewel is something to see. I had to share. Happy Tuesday friends!

Quick update

I was asked by a very wonderful client of ours to come help her do a quick update in her family room. The house was very traditional before, but she got a an idea to go alittle bit more contemporary but not over the top. When I came into the project she had purchased the two taupe recliners, ghost table and chair... but now what. The goal was to pull the room together and create a more modern space without lossing the traditional feel from the rest of the house.

AFTER:First, I suggest she paint the walls Smoked Trout. I felt the gold was just not working with her new chairs. Next suggestion was to make the fireplace a shade darker on the bottom to bring out some interest. I kept the lovely white statue and cleaned up the mantel by using one fluid piece in the center. To keep a traditional flare, I added a large glass vase with metal accents.

They had this built in desk area that just wasn't working at all. I choose to paint it to look like a piece of furniture in the space instead of a built in. We used Modern Masters Black Pearl for the desk and outside of the bookcase. And we used Steel Gray for the back wall. It turned out stunning and only used 2 quarts of paint! I quickly updated the accessories and hardware and viola a new look.

Here is another view of the room. I added the area rug and throw pillows to warm up the space. It turned out great! I love these quick re-do's and I know how fun our clients think they are too!

Bedroom "face lift"

For this bedroom face lift, we had the walls painted a rich faux finish done in multiple shades of silver and charcoal. The ceiling was done in the darkest shade of charcoal and for the tray we reversed it and used the lightest silver and a blue stencil. The bedding was previously purchased at Brown Interiors, but we needed to pull the room together with window treatments, new furniture and furnishings. Total job took 3 days to pull together and we think it turned out fabulous!

Jewel Box Re-model

We were asked to assist in a remodel project. Our goal was to turn this out date home into a "JEWEL BOX" with all the latest and greatest, per the client. Jody was the designer on this project and she was in charge of the color palette and faux designs; all lighting fixtures; tile/ granite and carpet selections; all furniture selection and placement; and finally over all design consultation.

The home was suppose to be ready for move in early September, but due some changes on behave of the the contractor the house was not ready for move in til, yep, Thanksgiving! Because of the time of year the clients also asked that we decorate the home for Christmas too!

After 5 days of unpacking, hanging pictures, staging and decorating for Christmas; voila a "Jewel Box"!

POWDER BATH ROOM:

Door to powder bath matches the doors that lead to the Master suite. Walls are faux painted in a combination of metallic paints and raised 3-D stencils. Labor on faux provided by, Britta. The turquoise and deep red stencils alternate with the raised stencils to give a stunning effect. The vanity is from Hooker furniture. Jody selected a custom backsplash with four different metallic 1 x 1 glass tiles, installed by Houston Carpet and Classic. Mexican Sand colored toilet replaced white porceline one that didn't match our rich decor. Every element in this room is perfectly blended to create a showcase powder bathroom.

LIVING/ FAMILY ROOM:

Before the living room was covered in yellow oak built-ins and the fireplace was to say the least, NOT a focal point. We wanted this space to set the tone for the rest of the house, " jeweled". Jody selected a deep red venetian with a light brown glaze. A rich walnut wood floor spans the room. The ceiling was painted a metallic bronze and after much debate, Jody convienced the home owners that painting the crown molding and trim with a dark brown and highlighting the details with a gold paint was just what the room called for and she was right! Any other color just would not have worked.

The yellow oak built ins was removed and custom entertainment center built by the contractor and color palette selected by Brown Interiors.

The furniture was selected with the help of the home owners, for the "tush test" then, Jody got busy selecting all the perfect fabrics, accents and trims. The Sean sectional by Highland House is in the softest ribbed microfiber and played up with jewel tone pillows and heavy fringe. If you follow our blog you know the Sean is one of our favorites and our customers too!

The high back chocolate velvet wing chairs invite you to melt your cares away when you come home. Instead of a traditional coffee table we have decide to use the clients clover shaped ottoman and have it re upholstered after the holiday season.

Mirrored end tables flank the sofa, mixed with a traditional wooden end table between the velvet chairs. Lamps can be found here in our showroom most days in stock and if you don't find that is perfect for your home; we can always special order.

DINING ROOM:

This dining room was right off the living room. We debated about whether to try and seperate the space with walls and french doors or colums. In the end we decided it was best to keep the space as open as possible and make it an exact match with the family room. The chandelier is made of turquoise crystals and we acutally painted half of the crystals a blinging gold to add pop!

KITCHEN:

The kitchen was by far our favorite room. The pendant lights were searched for by Brown Interiors, once found we knew we had the perfect lights to bring the rich colors together from the family room to the kitchen. In the center of the kitchen we used two crystal chandeliers spaced on each side of the island. The cabinet doors were selected by Jody and then painted camelback with a brown glaze. Jody wanted the granite to blend turquoise, gold and red. This exotict selection was found at Houston Carpet and absolutely to die for.

The tile under the bar that faces the family room is an oversize 3-d pattern with high and low tiles. It looks like ivory! We liked it so much we decided to use it on the backsplash and around the fireplace in the living room.

The walls in this kitchen and breakfast are something to talk about. After a six step process, labor done by Britta, they look like upholstery and when you are in the space you just want to touch the walls. The texture draws you in and makes you feel warm and cozy in the space.

Urban meets East Coast Beach House

We were asked to take a house built 40 plus years ago and update it to modern times. We had a budget and a design style to stick to. The clients goal was to get the most bang for their buck and to concentrate all monies at this time to their entertainment areas, aka family room and dining room. The clients live in the heart of the city and wanted to have a casual, yet elegant home that made them feel as if they were on vacation somewhere everyday. Their favorite vacation spots are on the east coast on the beach so we brought alittle of the coast feel into their city home.

Below you will see pictures of the before, during and after. The entire construction of the project took 4 months. We here at Brown Interiors are very proud of the finished product and our clients are just ecstatic with their updated space.

BEFORE and AFTER PHOTOS:

STAGE ONE: Cover the ceiling in 1 x 4 wood tongue and groove beams and wrap white sheet rock beams in warm walnut veneers.

ORIGINAL ENTERTAINMENT CENTER BELOW:

Center of entertainment center before, the TV space was not large enough to accommodate today's TVs. Cabinets were just open spaces, not organized for DVDs or proper storage.

STAGE TWO: Design an entertainment that would create a focal point for the room and provide a space for a larger TV. I wanted the two wrapped walnut beams to center with the center portion of the tv cabinet. We also raised the height of the new entertainment center in order to draw your eye up to the ceiling.

New entertainment center is designed with four large oversize storage drawers, two pull out DVD cabinets with three shelves and two large door cabinets with shelves inside for componets.

The new cabinet also has bead board backing and lighted glass display cabinets on each side. The new display shelves are all adjustable.

DINING ROOM BEFORE: Walls were painted a deep sage green with dated chair rail. Crystal chandelier hung over old world traditional table and chairs that was too large for the space.

STEP THREE: Take down chair rail and replace deep sage painted walls with metallic gold textured grass cloth.

We also decided to add a bead board chair rail to the entire family room and update the base board from a 2" base to a 6" base board and larger crown molding.

Amanda's Hitched

Hooker Furniture has always been one of my go to vendors. They seem to have always had a unique collection to select from; giving me as a designer many original accents to create a personal touch in my clients homes.

But honestly, the past year I have been a little disappointed in Hooker. They seemed to have gone stale on me. Not the case now! Who is the new buyer for Hooker furniture? They are right on track with what I am wanting to design and with what my clients are asking for.

The new accents are composed of sophisticated finishes, whimsical hand paintings and delightful details. These new pieces bring in a sense of romance and elegance. They are the missing pieces I needed to create anything from shabby chic to coastal or urban luxury.

I love this fresh new look to Hooker Furniture and I am posting some of my favorites from the new collection. If you like any of these pieces, we can order for you. Who wouldn't want to come home and sit in this garden and have some lemonade? I think these pedestals are so fine. Its a quick and easy way to dress up your back yard and they require no water!

Football season is so much more bearable if you are watching a TV over this Visage hardwood solid, gold & silver leaf console. Seriously, how beautiful is this? The mix match drawers and doors which give you ample storage for both components and DVDs. Paired with an infrared light you will never have to see those ugly cable boxes again.

Bring your 'wild' side to your bedroom, with this exotic zebra mirror. Animal prints are here and here to stay. They are only getting bigger and better. Use a bold animal print in a multitude of colors and metallic to invigorate your space.

Pretty sure this is coming to my house! The deepest part of the cabinet is 14 1/4" with 5 adjustable shelves. Modern with the seeded glass to bring in some traditional elements. I am going to make a place for it in my guest bathroom.

This end table just to look at by itself is interesting but doesn't grab me....now see it in an actual space below. HELLO fabulous!

SEAN you are FABULOUS

So as many, many of you know. The sofa is the MOST important thing in the living room. Girls, am I wrong here? When you come home to relax the first place you pop is the sofa with a glass of wine and popcorn in hand, to watch your favorite reality TV show. The sofa is where you go for everything. To relax, to curl up with loved ones, to take Sunday afternoon naps. It is the center piece of the room. For most families I talk to these days its also where we eat our meals!

The sofa is one of the largest pieces in the family room so it needs to be the bomb. I have found the PERFECT sofa! It's name is "Sean" this sofa comes in either a stationary sofa or a sectional. You can order in all fabric, all leather or a combo. The seat is 24" deep! This is dynamite. How many times have you laid down on a sofa and felt like one false move you will roll right off. Frank Lloyd Wright Inspiration

One of the Twin Houses

Got a chance to go to the windy city, Chicago, a few weeks ago. While on my visit I had to be sure and visit all the beautiful architecture created by Frank Lloyd Wright. Being a designer he has always inspired me. Even as a child growing up in Nacogdoches, Tx one of my best friends lived in a house known as one of "The Twin" houses. I remember being infatuated with her house. I adored spending the night in her room because she had a fireplace in her bedroom and I thought it was the neatest thing ever! The actual home was build and designed by D. Rulfs; commissioned by Charles Hoya in 1914 for his two daughters. The house I spent many Friday nights at was the Mast house. Reflective of Frank Lloyd Wright and his Bungalow period. The house has feminine lines and diamond motifs through out. As a child, I can still remember the windows and how much I was drawn to them.

As an adult, when I first met Deborah we knew we had the same design style and inspiration when she told me one her favorite architects was Frank Lloyd Wright, as well.

The Robie House

In Chicago at the University of Chicago they have the Robie House. It is a 20th century masterpiece. Even today you can see the modern form in his design. The pure design alone is enough to take your breath away; and while looking through the windows I was able to imagine how amazing it would have been to live there. The function form of the house is art itself.

Unity Temple

I was also able to visit the Unity Temple, FLW created. The temple was one of the first public buildings constructed of concrete. The building is full of small hallways that go from very bright to very dark and you move up and down many stairs. The ceilings are breathtaking. They are composed of four different stained glass pieces, coffered inside of oak beams. The room is full of light and it feels spiritual when you are in the space.

The geometric lines fill the walls that are covered in color of green, grey and yellow. The lights seem to fit in perfect; however they have a Japanese design to them. The temple smells like old books and I kept re walking the halls, enamoured with the space.

3-D Stencil Demonstration 7-22-2010 - Join Us

We are gearing up to have another one of our fabulous open houses. If you have not attended one in the past, I highly encourage you to come and visit with us. Amanda will be demonstrating how to apply a faux stencil using a 3-D application. The demonstration will start at 6:00pm. It is an easy and great technique anyone can use.

Also, for those of you who have not met our newest designer, April, will be here to greet and introduce herself. April has a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design and started working here in May. She already has shown her vast knowledge of interior spaces and just finished decorating the new "green" Associated Credit Union of Texas.

Appetizers and drinks will be served from 5-7pm. Everyone is welcome. As always we will be giving away door prizes from our showroom ( they are the hit of the party).

I had the opportunity to visit this fabulous little shop settled in the heart of downtown Chicago. First, let me preface this post with I do not get out to shop for myself personally much, so when I find a really neat place I want to share it with all my friends.

They call themselves " A shop with a view" The shop is covered vintage china, hotel silver and European flea market finds. I personally purchased the most adorable handmade hand towels for my kitchen. Everytime I look at them I smile.

~Re-model Hunters Crossing~

When we met with the homeowner for the first time her walls in the house where a very light vanilla with stark white trim. You couldn't appreciate the architectural elements that ran rampant in the home. The floor was a 16 x 16 cream tile laid in a straight pattern. The furniture was arranged in a way that said, "Formal, do not touch".

First thing we need to do is get some contrast in this home. We started by removing all the travertine from the floor and replaced it with a rich, coco finish in a multi width hand scraped Hickory wood. Next, we warmed up the walls with a Latte flat paint and painted the trim in a divine white semi gloss. Voila, you can see the architecture! We removed the shiny tiles around the fireplace and replaced it with a deeper Carmel travertine. Had the entire woodwork around the mantel and firebox painted a warm sable and glazed over it with a black antique technique. The faux painting on the fire place was done by, Britta Olivarez, with Fantastic Faux. Finally, we fauxed the ceiling with a Fleur De lis leaf pattern. Look at those steps leading your eye up to the fabulous stenciled ceiling.

We finished the room with an intimate furniture arrangement, perfect for after dinner drinks with friends or to curl up with a good book. This room is joined by the dining room and the sofa placement creates a divider between the two rooms without enclosing the space. The burgundy and blue mixed with the rich browns give the room the warmth is was missing.

This is the adjoining dining room we painted the same Latte color on the walls, fauxed the oval ceiling tray, complimented it with a bowl chandelier. The large mirror next to the window reflects light and the stunning view in the backyard. Same rust leather on the seats of the dining room chairs pulls the color over from the living room captains chairs.

Modern Traditional

Some wonderful clients of mine, decided to build a new home. I had worked with them on their two previous homes, so when they called and asked me to come help again, I felt so blessed. First we had to pick out their interior selections. Things like tile, carpet, paint, granite etc. The clients are young they wanted a modern traditional feel to the home. I uploaded some photos of how we created the style.

The kitchen is painted a warm beige with brown undertones. For the cabinets we did a creamy base with black glaze and choose to keep the granite as more of neutral than a focal point, using tropical brown slabs. With all of these very traditional finishes, we decided to add that pop of unexpected modern by choosing a black glass mosic tile with brushed nickel 2x2 inserts for the kitchen backsplash.

Another way we mixed traditional with modern elements was by using traditional stone tiles in a brick lay pattern and adding a linear element with the tile border. The black stones in the shower tiles picks up the chocolate and black color palette that runs throughout the home.

Most of the floors are handscraped hickory 5" wide with a satin finish. It makes the light walls and trim stand out and adds a sense of depth to the space.

In the bedrooms and study we wanted to keep that same dark floor finish, but use a softer material. So, we choose a deep chocolate pattern carpet from the Reminscing collection by Shaw.
Monday was move in day for the homeowners, so on Wednesday, I was hired to come and help them accessorize their home with their existing accessories. Personally, I love doing one day make overs. Its instant gratification. The home owners laid out all their personal items for me to pick and choose what we wanted to use. Myself and my two fabulous handy helpers accessorized the entire house in 6 hours! Whew... Below are a few pictures from some of the space.

Swarovski Crystals Home Project

While at market last week, I found a very cool piece of art. It was perfect to hang in my staircase. I got it home and decided it needed just a little more bling to really make it unique.

In Pearland there is a really funky little shop called Antiques, Beads & Crafty People. I decided to stop and see what they carried. I found Swarovski crystals! They had every color and size and shape you ever want. This is perfect for what I wanted. I bought two packs of the smokey topaz and headed home for a simple craft project.

First, I laid out all the places I wanted to add the crystals on the artwork. Then I got out my trusty glue gun and got started.

It took about 30 minutes to get all the crystals on where I wanted them. However, it was completely worth the time. I got all the crystals on the artwork and hung it up in the staircase. The swarovski crystals catch the light from the chandelier and sparkle as you walk past. The flash from the camera does not do the picture any justice. I encourage you to find a place in your home to add some bling.

shopping, shopping and MORE shopping

Deborah, Amanda and myself headed up to market last week with a mission to fill the showroom with different and inspiring accessories. We wore out our shoes looking for accessories that not only bring new life to your decor, but accessories that provoke interest and furnishings that draw people into your space. Accessories are what creates a feeling of warmth and a since of home.

Today the delivery truck brought a truck load of florals, rugs, accent chests and lamps. Throughout the next few weeks all the of the exciting home furnishings we purchased will be arriving. We are busy opening and tagging; trying to get everything out for you to take home as soon as possible.

Remember, we have started booking for Christmas decorating. I know its only June and Christmas seems so far away, but trust me it will be here before you know it. THE TREE HOUSE

THE GOAL:

Brown Interiors was hired to transform a plain game room into a fun, energetic atmosphere for both kids and adults. The only boundaries was the space. As far as design the sky was the limit.

Below are three before pictures.

Phase 1- Construction
Brown Interiors hired carpenter, Johnny Hammack to do the actual construction on the project. A unique tree house structure where the children could escape into a world of fun and imagination. The tree house is a two story structure with two small interior play areas. Storage steps lead the way to the second level, which doubles as a stage for the children to perform for their parents. The children can exit the second story via the staircase or the slide.

In this part of the club house is a secret room for the children play. Designer, Jody, had cut outs made in the shapes of the exterior rocks to allow for plenty of natural light and airflow in the shape of pee-a-boo rocks for the kids. Here is Alex looking out one of the cut outs before the rocks were painted.

Paul, Alex and Mr. Hammack building the multi-purpose stairs. Each step is a drawer that may be used to store coloring book, crayons, art and crafts.

Each step has recessed finger holes instead of handles. The finger holes are a fun way for children to open the drawer, yet also prevent injury by not having dangerous hardware for clothing to catch on or toes to get stubbed on.

Storage is always a major concern for our clients. The trunks of the tree are not only decorative they are also functional. On one side the trunk is hollowed out and shaped like a squirrel hole to serve as a toy box. The opposite tree trunk opens to revival hidden shelves.

Phase 2 -Painting and Design
Rhonda Raley, a faux-artist, pained a beautiful mural, designed by Brown Interiors. Full of vibrant colors and exotic animals. After the first consultation with the homeowners about the mural; one of their children said she wanted to be sure the animals were friendly. We took much pride and care in designing friendly faces on the animals. Jody, selected the stone/ rock design and colors; and Rhonda, painted the realistic rocks on the exterior of the tree house. She added texture and stamped in fossils along the way. Adding to the custom design. The children will be able to search for new treasures in the rocks, such as fern fossils, butterflies and lizards. The tree trunks are also textured and faux painted with texture. A clear blue sky was added to the ceiling to add ambiance and character setting the perfect scene for the tree house. By painting the walls around the tree house we were able to designate the spaces between adult and child.

Phase 3- Finished Project

The Tree House is complete with plexi-glass railing, front and back so that the children can't fall. The rope that is around the railing is 3 1/2 inches thick and adds to the detailing of the tree house. A new sofa sleeper folds out into a queen size bed for guest. The fabric on the sleeper sofa is a performance fabric which is nearly indestructible. Jody added the storage ottoman that doubles as a coffee table. Behind the sofa the home owners displayed some art work from their children. The homeowners had art display lighting added to set it off. A new ceiling fan and light kit was installed in place of the original one. A life size Eagle is suspended from the ceiling a long with a monkey hanging from the railing. Both the first and second floor of the tree house was carpeted.

Mexico House

We were given the awesome opportunity to work on a game ranch house in Mexico. When first approached by the homeowners, I wasn't sure if it was something we could actually do. However, once involved I couldn't have gotten more excited about the project. To get inspiration for the Mexican style and to find some authentic pieces to fill the house. The homeowners and myself, Jody, took at 7 day trip to San Miguel, MX. The city of San Miguel is fabulous! It is covered in blooming trees and flowers. The streets are small and cobblestone; lined with amazing doors. Behind each door is an oasis of someones home. All the homes have beautiful courtyards. The houses are built with lots of open air areas. Every morning we would start the day with a hike up the mountains to the top of the city and enjoy the stunning view. Once, back in the states we worked tirelessly with the homeowners via email and in person for almost 9 months to finish the house. We made multiple trips to Mexico so we could meet with the Architect, make changes to the final designs and select all the tiles, granites and interior finishes.

Bootstrap Foundation

We believe in supporting local charities in our area. This past week we had the opportunity to sponsor a great charity, The Bootstrap Foundation. They hold charity events and donate the monies from the events to different people in need. Brown Interiors donations benefited the Oilfield Helping Hands. Which helps Industry workers families in the Houston area. We were honored to be able to help and hope to see the Bootstrap Foundation flourish with their mission of helping others.
